Nanakshahi calendar
About the Nanakshahi calendar
The Nanakshahi calendar was designed by Pal Singh Purewal to fix Sikh festivals to a tropical solar year, with year one in 1469, the birth of Guru Nanak. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee adopted it in 2003, with the new year on 14 March. Disagreements led the committee to return several festivals to the traditional lunisolar reckoning in 2010, and the version in use remains disputed.
