About the Bengali calendar
The Bengali calendar, or Bangabda, is a solar calendar whose new year, Pohela Boishakh, is a major festival in Bangladesh and West Bengal. Bangladesh officially adopted a revised version in 1987 with fixed month lengths, Gregorian-aligned leap years and Pohela Boishakh on 14 April, and a further revision in 2019 adjusted month lengths so that national commemorations keep fixed Gregorian dates. West Bengal continues the older sidereal version, so the new year there usually falls on 14 or 15 April.
