Buddhist Era
About the Buddhist Era
The Buddhist Era counts years from the parinirvana of the Buddha according to Theravada tradition. In Thailand it is the official year count, 543 years ahead of the Common Era, so 2026 is BE 2569. Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Cambodia use variants of the same era, which can differ by a year in where they place the epoch.
