Anno Hegirae
About the Anno Hegirae
Islamic years are counted from the Hijra, Muhammad's migration from Mecca to Medina in 622. Because the Hijri year is about 11 days shorter than the solar year, AH year numbers gain on CE years and the year 1448 AH begins in 2026. The Solar Hijri calendar of Iran uses the same epoch with solar years, so its year numbers are lower.
