Yom Kippur
About the Yom Kippur
The Day of Atonement, the holiest day of the Jewish year, runs from sunset on 9 Tishrei to nightfall on 10, a 25 hour fast with intensive prayer. The calendar postponement rules keep it off Friday and Sunday, so the fast never runs directly into or out of the Sabbath. It seals the Ten Days of Repentance opened by Rosh Hashanah.
