Nowruz
About the Nowruz
Nowruz, the Persian new year, begins at the moment of the March equinox and opens the Solar Hijri year in Iran and Afghanistan. It is celebrated by around 300 million people from the Balkans to Central Asia. UNESCO inscribed it as intangible cultural heritage in 2009 and the UN General Assembly recognised an International Day of Nowruz, 21 March, in 2010.
