Tishrei
About Tishrei
Tishrei opens the Hebrew civil year even though the Torah numbers months from Nisan, a reminder that the calendar holds two year counts. Rosh Hashanah falls on 1 Tishrei, Yom Kippur on 10 and Sukkot on 15. Postponement rules keep 1 Tishrei off Sunday, Wednesday and Friday so Yom Kippur never abuts the Sabbath.
