Muharram
About Muharram
Muharram is the first month of the Hijri year and one of the four sacred months in which fighting was traditionally forbidden. The tenth day, Ashura, is a voluntary fast day in Sunni Islam and the great day of mourning for Shia Muslims, marking the death of Husayn at Karbala in 680. Since the year is purely lunar, Muharram cycles through all seasons.
