French Republican calendar
About the French Republican calendar
Revolutionary France replaced the Gregorian calendar with twelve months of 30 days, each split into three ten-day décades, plus five or six complementary days. Its epoch was 22 September 1792, the founding of the Republic, and the commission led by Gilbert Romme included Lagrange and Lalande, with month names such as Brumaire and Thermidor by Fabre d'Églantine. Napoleon abolished it from 1 January 1806, and the Paris Commune briefly revived it in 1871.
