Turkey's calendar reform, 1926
About the Turkey's calendar reform, 1926
The Ottoman Empire's Rumi civil calendar was aligned with Gregorian dates in 1917 but still numbered its years from the Hijra. As part of Atatürk's reforms, the Republic of Turkey adopted the Gregorian year count from 1 January 1926, along with international time-keeping. The Islamic calendar is used today only for religious dates.
