About the Tibetan calendar
The Tibetan calendar is lunisolar and based on the Kalachakra Tantra, with an intercalary month added as needed and some calendar days skipped or doubled. Years are named by element and animal in 60-year cycles called rabjung, the first of which began in 1027. Losar, the Tibetan New Year, usually falls in February or March.
