Thailand's new year change, 1941
About the Thailand's new year change, 1941
Thailand moved the start of its official year from 1 April to 1 January in 1941 to align with international practice. As a result the Buddhist Era year 2483 lasted only nine months, from April to December 1940. Songkran in mid-April remains the traditional Thai new year festival.
