Aztec calendar
About the Aztec calendar
The Aztecs used a 365-day year, the xiuhpohualli, of 18 periods of 20 days plus five nemontemi days, and a 260-day ritual count, the tonalpohualli. The two meshed in a 52-year bundle, the xiuhmolpilli, whose completion was marked by the New Fire Ceremony. The famous carved Aztec Sun Stone in Mexico City is often called the Aztec calendar stone.
