Akan calendar
About the Akan calendar
The Akan people of Ghana and Ivory Coast combine a six day week with the seven day week, producing named sacred days that recur in cycles of 40 or 42 days called adaduanfo. Each cycle has its character and its festivals, and days such as Akwasidae, honoring ancestors, fall on their intersection. Chiefs still schedule ceremonies by it.
